My wife filed for divorce under adultry in South Carolina, do to emails I exchanged with a woman. I do not deny I did that, however, my question is if a vehicle was purchased for my use before the marriage am i going to be held responsible for paying for it?

Thank you for your question.

To answer your question directly, an asset purchased before marriage is deemed to be a 'separate asset'. In other words, if the vehicle is in your wife's name only, then upon divorce she takes the vehicle, and the debt because legally you are not considered to be a party to either the debt or to the ownership of that vehicle.

Good luck.
