Thanks for the chance to help. I am an attorney with over 12 years experience. Hopefully I can help you with your legal question.Good question.Legally? That does not do much of anything. It would not prevent her from taking you go court for wrongful eviction. But a couple thousand dollars!?That is a lot of money (at least in my book)I bet you know or have an idea how she will react. The thing is, if you just give her a check, she can still sue. Yea...if she cashes the check, that is credited to you by the court. But if you are going to write a check, make her pay for it. Make her sign a release she will not sueGet it on paper " I ______, agree that i will accept __$$__ from _____ in consideration for any claims I may have relating to my tenancy at ____(address)____"Then give her cash if she is willing to sign.Otherwise keep the check...if she sues you, you may need the money.
