As a therapist, a 17 yr old female client told me that she was raped by her boyfriend a year ago - she was 16 and he was 17; they no longer date. The parents just found out and are going to the police. Do I need to report this to Child Protection?
Optional Information: Country relating to Question: United States State (if USA): Kentucky Already Tried: consulting with others and learning that due to their ages and it being date rate, I do not have to report
As a therapist, your sessions with the patient are confidential. At this late date, one year after the event, you would not be required to report anything. Reporting it at this time would not be doing anything for the patient or her frame of mind. Also, at this late date, you would need the consent of the patient to disclose this information.
