My husband did not pay payroll taxes and the Feds put a lien

Resolved Question:

My husband did not pay payroll taxes and the Feds put a lien on our moble home we live in, we file taxes jointly, but the lien notices come only in his name. If I divorce him will I be held accountable for the lien and if I remarry will my new husband get stuck with it because he married me?

Thank you for your question. Were you named in the Lien, or was the lien solely against your husband?

i was not named on lien but my credit report says i have a fed tax lien?

Thank you for your patience. My apologies on the delay.

If you were not named, but it is on your credit report, then the lien will cover you and will pursue you in the situation if your husband stops making payments. Essentially because both of you filed jointly, his omission became your omission. Plus, Oregon treats marital debts and obligations as joint debts, which would make you jointly liable for the lien amount.

i wish I had better news for you. Good luck.
