Is there any reason an attorney would not disclose a court date/hearing and would not want the client to attend?

The attorney may have made a mistake in not notifying the client. Perhaps the client's attendance at the hearing was not necessary. Additionally there is the possibility that the attorney did not want the client present for fear of what the client would testify to and/or how the client would react at the hearing.
