I just married in St Lucia and never filed my marriage certificate

Resolved Question:

I just married in St Lucia and never filed my marriage certificate in NY, my husband and I are now separating, do I need to file for divorce? I'm not sure if I'm legally married in the US

If you got married and received a marriage certificate, you're legally married. The legal document from St. Lucia is valid and enforceable in the US.

Thus, you'll have to file for divorce or an annulment.
