Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hi, Dr Ashori here. Is the eyeball okay without any pain or discharge?
Sudden pain in the eyelid, burning or any other irritation is usually caused by 2 things: 1) developing stye 2) cold sore outbreak.
A cold sore can happen on the eye, nose and of course the lip.
A stye is benign but means that a gland in the eyelid is plugged.
Best way to treat it is to go in the shower under warm running water and scrub the eyelids really well. Sometimes even with a bit of baby shampoo.
The next best step is to do the scrubbing daily and wait to see if a rash or swelling might develop.
It doesn't appear to be anything serious based on what you have said.
I wanted to throw this in, any chance you touched a spicy substance and then touched the lid? Unlikely, but I thought I should mention it.
