Customer Question

Hi. I had makeup applied 6 weeks ago by an esthetician. She applied strip fake eyelash with glue. Hot glue in my eye and lashes starred sticking together. The eyes felt like they were swelling and I removed all the makeup and lashes within 60 minutes. Eyelids are still swollen every morning upon waking. Eyes feel so dry. Been twice to opthamologist. He thinks nothing serious. Doing blepharitis hygiene routine and preservative free eye drops. Why is this happening still? Right eye is worse and has leathery like swelling above eyelash ALL day. Never goes down.
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: I'm wondering what is really going on and how I can eliminate the swelling, get my eyes back and have no more dry eye. This cannot still be related to the makeup!?
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Eye Doctors generally expect a deposit of about $18 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

Do you have any other medical issues that might be playing a role?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I actually just had bloodwork done at my obgyn
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Hemoglobin normal, thyroid normal, estrogen normal, fsh normal and prolactin normal
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Also, typo earlier--this was not hot glue. I meant that she GOT glue in my eye

Do you have a pic?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I considered allergy, but I have never had allergy affect my eye
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
How can I send u the pic?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
That is the right eye that is giving most trouble
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
The swelling is above the lash line and a couple mm thick
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
It never goes down.
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

have you tried a topical steroid?

or oral steroid?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Not oral. Tobradex 4 x per day for 7 days brought down initially but never beyond what you see here
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

It seems like a prolonged allergic reaction

oral steroids might be needed

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I don't know if this is related, but I've been grieving a devastating loss since October and cry about every day
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Could that be causing it
Customer: replied 11 months ago.

did the picture show the swelling?
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

yes, that absolutely could be playing a role

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Does it seem reasonable that I could have chronic permanent swelling and dry eye?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No doc wants to give me oral steroid or antibiotic. They keep telling me to wait it out! I'm miserable with burning eyes and I stopped wearing makeup.
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

No, the swelling won't be permanent.

I'm confident on that

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
That is reassuring. So is the swelling causing the dry eye? Or the dry eye causing the swelling?
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

the swelling is causing the dry eye I believe

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Okay. If you were me, how would you proceed. This is week 6
Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 11 months ago.

I would follow with a dermatologist and ask for topical or oral steroids
