Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hello~ I have blepharitis which has been flaring up and staying around more frequently. I've been able to control the flakiness with everything from activated charcoal, baking soda, baby & dandruff shampoo, as well as various eye drop formulas. But the dry eye, inflammation, and redness of the eyes are still there. I rarely wear makeup anymore and keep my eyes clean with Lid-Care wipes. I also have glaucoma and take drops at night to stabilize the pressure. Can you please assist me with this as I have been suffering with it for over a month straight but the first onsite of it happened a couple of years ago. Is there some kind of over the counter ointment I can use to sooth the discomfort? I live in New Zealand so the brand names may be different. Thx, Vanessa
Hi. I'm Dr. Rick and I have two decades of ophthalmology experience. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.
Hello Dr. Rick~
Thank you for your reply. The only medication I am currently taking is Dexamphetamine for my ADD.
I also forgot to mention that, although my eyes feel dry, they tear very much especially the left eye. I now remember having had my tear ducts plugged before over 5 years ago for the tearing problem, and I believe they were silicone. I didn't seem to need them after a couple of years so my doctor took them out or they may have dissolved on their own. This is something I will consider doing again. My nose seems to run a lot too. Is there some kind of connection here even though my eyes feel dry most of the time? Is the baby shampoo making them over tear? I will continue the baby shampoo washing and buy some natural tears. Regarding the Restasis, is this over the counter or prescribed by doctor only?
Thanks for your help!
