my daughter got hit with a plastic milk jug (gallon) filled

This answer was rated:

my daughter got hit with a plastic milk jug (gallon) filled with small rocks or coins last night near the right side of the front o her head. she was at a soccer game and teens were moving them around and someone bopped her on the head with one. since this morning, she has a dull headache and she says that when she looks up and down or moves her head at all, her eyes hurt ... is this related?

Dr. Rick :

Hi. I'm Dr. Rick and I have two decades of ophthalmology experience. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.

Dr. Rick :

What part of her head was hit?

Customer:

forehead, to the right above her eye.

Dr. Rick :

Was the jug thrown? Swung at her head hard? Fell from a short height?

Customer:

she says when she looks left and right, and when she looks up and down, her eyes hurt, more the right than the left.

Customer:

swung at her head hard.

Customer:

teenagers!

Customer:

they were noisemakers for the game.

Dr. Rick :

Does she seem to complain of any double vision?

Customer:

no

Dr. Rick :

I do believe her symptoms are related to the milk jug hitting her head....

Dr. Rick :

It is possible that is broke some of the bones around her orbit and/or caused bleeding behind her eyeball.

Customer:

would it be just one eye or both?

Dr. Rick :

As a father of 5 kids myself, I'd feel a lot better if a doctor had a look at her.

Dr. Rick :

Just the eye on the side that was hit.

Customer:

ok. 5 kids, huh?? :)

Customer:

will do - thanks very much.

Customer:

should we try to get in toinght?

Dr. Rick :

The headache may be from something as minor as just minor trauma, a possible concussion or something worse.

Customer:

or see how she odes in the morning.

Dr. Rick :

Yup. 3 girls

Dr. Rick :

Up to you. Does she have any other symptoms...nausea etc?

Customer:

no, no nausea. she says just the dull headache all day. she said she has been involunatrily squinting her eyes a bit all day which i found strange.

Dr. Rick :

The squinting could be from inflammation inside her eyeball (uveitis) from the trauma.

Customer:

ok. i will talk to my husband and see what he thinks we should do.

Customer:

thanks very much - enjoy those 5 kids!

Dr. Rick :

I'd probably have her seen this evening....unfortunately that means the ER at this point.

Customer:

we hav ea doctor is in. is that ok?

Customer:

or right to ER?

Dr. Rick :

Thanks. Got two grandkids already. Life is good.

Dr. Rick :

If you can get to a regular doctor/peds md now that would be great.

Customer:

ok. sounds good... thanks again. :)

Dr. Rick :

my pleasure

Sue,

I was just thinking about your daughter and wondering how she is doing. I hope the doctor didn't find anything serious wrong on Friday.

Let me know if I can do anything else to help.
