Hi, I had a foreign object enter my eye this morning and I think I removed it. However my eye hasn't stopped watering all day. Its causing my nose to run and tears to run down one side of my face

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Hello, Thank you for the question.I am Dr.A.S.Desai and I look forward to assisting you .

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Are you available for chat?

Customer:

yes im available to chat

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Apart from watering , is there any redness?

Customer:

my eye is a bit bloodshot

Customer:

and slightly red on the inside of the eye

Customer:

inside corner of my eye**

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Do you still have any foreign body sensation in that eye?

Customer:

yes but i have rinsed it out 3 times and cannot visibly see anything

Dr. A.S. Desai :

There are a few possibilities here. One is that the foreign body could have got lodged beneath the undersurface of the upperlid.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

It is one of the commonest sites and can only be seen on everting the upperlid.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If you can see the foreign body on everting the upperlid then it can be removed gently with an earbud.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If you do not find anything there, then it is likely that there could have been a corneal abrasion.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

However corneal abrasions heal very well with lubricating eye drops and patching of the eye overnight. The cornea heals well wihin 24 hours.

Customer:

couldn't see anything in the mirror when i just looked

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Could be a superficial corneal abrasion which is not visible to naked eye.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Use lubricating eye drops and patch the eye overnight. If you get symptomatic relief then continue with lubricating eye drops for a week.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If no improvement is seen then it is better to get the eye examined closely by an eye doctor.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Is there anything else that I can answer for you?

Customer:

ok then so if I havent seen an improvement in the morning (24 hours after it happened) then I should consult the eye doctor?

Customer:

or 24 hours after I've used the eye drops and patch?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Yes, to be on the safer side. Consult if no improvement after 24 hours of using drops and patching.

Customer:

Ok then thanks

Dr. A.S. Desai :

You are most welcome.
