My daughter is producing mucus out of her left eye. I have some Polixin Ofteno drops. Is this the right treatment for conjunctivitis? What is proper dosage for a 2.5 year old?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Hello, Welcome to Pearl.com

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Are you available for chat now?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Is your daughter's left eye appearing red along with watering and discharge from the eye?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

hi

Customer:

yes

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If it is indeed bacterial conjunctivitis ( redness, watering and discharge), then Polixin Ofteno drops would not be the ideal choice.

Customer:

What is that good for?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

I would prefer to use Moxifloxacin( Vigamox) eye drops, 1 drop 4-6 times a day for 7-10 days.

Customer:

ok. I dont know if we have that here.

Customer:

im in haiti.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

It is one of the most widely used antibiotic eye drops all over the world . But it is a prescription medicines and would not be available over the counter.

Customer:

ok. I will look for it or its local equivalent

Customer:

Thanks.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

You are most welcome.

Customer:

so dont use Polixin until we get the new stuff. is that right?

Customer:

We gave her 1 drop yesterday because wife thought that was the stuff she had last time.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Best wishes for your child and take care. Yes, if it is a case of bacterial conjunctivitis , Vigamox would be a better choice. But in children viral conjunctivitis is more common ( self limiting condition which would disappear irrespective of the treatment being given or not).

Customer:

ok.

Customer:

thank you.

I found Gentacip eye drops. The pharmacy did not have Moxifloxacin. Can I use it? Administer the same way?

Hello Alain,

Yes, you can use Gentacip eye drops instead of Moxifloxacin in the same dosage as explained.
