I recently went to get a physical exam and i got a 20/20 on

Customer Question

I recently went to get a physical exam and i got a 20/20 on both eyes but my right eye is somewhat blurrier than my left eye, currently im trying to purchase sunglasses with prescriptions in it because it offers it for free i was wondering where should i start with the values for the sphere, cylinder, axis, add. and also should i just get Distance (Single Vision), Reading (Single Vision), or Progressive No Line, Bifocal or Trifocal?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Hello, Welcome to Pearl.com

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Are you available for chat now?

Customer :

yes I am

Dr. A.S. Desai :

You have not mentioned whether the vision is 20/20 with glasses or without.

Customer :

oh sorry without glasses

Customer :

i have 20/20 vision

Dr. A.S. Desai :

May I know your age ?

Customer :

yes I am 20

Customer :

Male

Dr. A.S. Desai :

OK. Was the burring of vision in the right eye not observed during the eye check up?

Customer :

it was so they gave me a contraption which helped me focus and it helped me read the letters a lot better

Customer :

they told me that my eye was probably tired

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Tired eyes is not exactly the explanation for blurring of vision.

Customer :

the odd thing is that i have a pair of glasses that have no prescription other than the lens that offer a little bit of prescription and with those glasses i am able to see a little better with it

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Do you have a prescription of the lenses which helped you read better?

Customer :

no i do not

Customer :

the lenses in the glasses that i have have no prescription

Customer :

but with it i can see a little better

Dr. A.S. Desai :

In that it would be very difficult to detect or find out what power of spectales you would need . One would need a prescription in order to get sunglasses with powered lenses.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

But I can tell for sure regarding the last part of your question- At your age you can go ahead with only distance vision (single vision) powered sunglasses.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Reading( single vision) glasses are for those above 40years of age.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Even progressive, bifocal, trifocal glasses are for individuals above 40 years of age ( for correction of presbyopia).

Customer :

hello?

Customer :

oh sorry didn't see that post

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Reading( single vision) glasses are for those above 40years of age.

Even progressive, bifocal, trifocal glasses are for individuals above 40 years of age ( for correction of presbyopia).

Customer :

okay and generally my vision is fine but with a little prescription i would want to be able to see further

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If that little prescription is below 0.50 D then you may as well skip it and go for plain , zero power glasses.

Customer :

if i increase the prescription above .50 D would it make letters seem bigger that are further away?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

But if the prescription is above that then it makes sense to get it incorporated in your sunglasses. No it is wrong to go ahead with assumptions . You must get the prescription once again either by an optician or an optometrist.

Customer :

so pretty much i should have gotten a legitimate eye exam before i came here

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Yes.

Customer :

hrm... sorry for the waste of time i thought i could have gotten somewhere without getting an eye exam

Dr. A.S. Desai :

So the next step should be get a spectacle prescription and then place an order for powered sunglasses, otherwise you are going to waste your money unnecessarily.

Customer :

well considering that they are offering a promotion with the sunglasses i want to purchase i thought that maybe i should get a little prescription in them since it was going to be free

Dr. A.S. Desai :

I understand that but how will you know what power you should be going for unless you have a prescription. The power lenses begin from 0.25 D to 30.0D and could be either plus ( convex) or minus(concave) lenses. Only an examination can help to detect that.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

One cannot possibly go for trial and error here.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

We need to place the lenses in front of your eyes and look for improvement of vision. The best possible correction which is accepted is then given as prescription.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

I hope that makes sense?

Customer :

it does make sense

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Is there anything else that I can answer for you in this regard?

Customer :

no thank you for your help.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

You are most welcome.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Please feel free to ask follow up questions if any.

Thank you and best wishes.

I am surprised to receive a negative rating after having given a satisfactory answer. I certainly did not expect this especially after having spent enough time on the answer till you got a satisfactory response. You can still consider upgrading the rating .
