Thankfully cataract is a very common eye condition which easily be treated with surgery.
Once cataract is formed it is better to get the surgery done as early as possible and it does not make sense to delay it as it can never get better without surgery.
The surgery done is phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation.
The choice of IOL is left to the patient - could be monofocal or multifocal. The pros and cons of each can be explained by the operating surgeon.
Cataract surgery is not something which needs to be done urgently but at the same time there is no need to unnecessarily delay it. One would not go blind because of cataract but it can cause reduced vision which would improve after surgery.
Please feel free to ask follow up questions if any.

thank you is there anyway to get into surgeory without waiting months to get in.. my pop is a pensioner
I guess that is a bit difficult to answer because the waiting period would depend on the maturity level of the cataract. If it is still immature then one can wait upto months whereas in case of a hypermature cataract it is better not to prolong further. I wish your grandfather a safe and uneventful cataract surgery.
thanks
You are most welcome.
