Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hello, Welcome to Just Answer
Are you available for chat now?
Is there any redness in that eye?
Do you have any known allergies?
not in the eye but around it. no allergies that i know of
Is it seen only in the left eye? Is the right eye absolutely fine?
One of the possibilites is that there could be blepharitis of the left eyelid ( inflammation of the eyelids).
what should i do?
Blepharitis can cause mild lid swelling, itching sensation of the lids.
is there anything i can do at home or at night while i sleep to help?
Treatment is in the form of warm compresses twice a day( which you are already doing) as it not only helps to bring down the swelling but also helps to remove any pent up secretions.
Lid scrub is to be done gently using 50:50 diluted baby shampoo, applied to the outer surface of the lid margin with the help of a Q-tip.
should i treat it like a stye?
Gentle lid massage at the same time also helps. Yes the treatment is similar to that of a stye.
how long if it persist should i see a doctor?
This mode of treatment is slow to show its effect and would usually take 2 weeks to show. So I guess in case of persistence of the above symptoms beyond 2 weeks after the treatment, it would be better to consult an ophthalmologist for a closer look.
thanks so much for all your help!
i will start right now with a compression, should it be cold or warm?
Though you do not have any known allergies, you can try anti-allergy medicines such as Tab.Zyrtec ( cetrizine), 10 mg , once at bedtime for 1 week . It is better to use warm compresses.
great. Once again thanks so much.
