You're correct. If this is a primary (first ever exposure) infection with HSV-2 then the incubation period is usually, at most, a couple of weeks between exposure and time to symptoms. That being said, some people don't even notice their symptoms of a primary infection and what you're experiencing now could be a latent, or reactivating infection. Also, though, it's quite possible that this is altogether something else, maybe even not infectious at all. Does that make sense?
