Dr. James :

Hello.

Dr. James :

re-wetting drops are effective to keep your contact lens lubricated.

Dr. James :

you may want to ask your ophthalmologist about punctal plus which decreases the amount tears that drain away from your eyes into your nose.

Dr. James :

Other options include Restasis, supplementation with omega-3 and flaxseed.

Customer:

Is Restasis OTC? Punctal Plus, what is this?

Dr. James :

Restasis is prescription only.

Dr. James :

Tears drain away from you eyes on the inside corner of your eyelids through 4 tears ducs (one for each eyelid).

Dr. James :

they drain into your nose (that is why your nose runs when you cry).

Dr. James :

Punctal plugs prevents the tears from draining away.

Dr. James :

this is put in by your eye doctor in the clinic.

Customer:

what is the approximate cost of these 2 things? Also I see an optometrist, can he prescribed these for me?

Dr. James :

it depends on the state you are in with regards XXXXX XXXXX prescribing and placing punctal plugs.

Dr. James :

If you have medical insurance, these 2 things may be covered, but usually through an ophthalmologist.

Customer:

Indiana

Dr. James :

Restasis cost about $150-180 for a month supply without insurance.

Dr. James :

I don't believe your optometrist in Indiana is able to prescribe Restasis or place punctal plugs via his optometric license.

Dr. James :

You should call to verify however.
