Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.
As you have already found out there are a million creams, ointments, treatments and techniques that promise to get rid of those dark circles under your eyes. And why are there so many? Because they don't work :(
The most common cause of dark eye circles is orbital fat prolapse. This is a benign condition.
With age the thin, tough membrane (orbital septum) that keeps the normal fat pad in place behind your eye becomes weak and tears. When this happens you start to notice the swelling, or bags, under your eyes. It is nothing to worry about.
The only way to treat this problem is with surgery, called a blepharoplasty. Many times it can be done in a procedure room in the ophthalmologist’s office. This is where I do the majority of cases myself.
Here is a good article on this topic. To control the dark circles under your eyes you would need a lower lid blepharoplasty. Many patients, however, elect to have all 4 lids done at once in order to achieve the best cosmetic results possible.
Does this make sense to you?
