lid peels and is somewhat swollen..quit using any eye makeup

Resolved Question:

One of my eylids has been red and sore for 2 months now. The lid peels and is somewhat swollen. I have quit using any eye makeup and that doesn't seem to help at all. What could be causing this and what can I use to clear it up?

Dr. Rick :

Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.

Customer:

Any answers for this

Dr. Rick :

Is there a bump?

Customer:

not that I can see

Dr. Rick :

Does it seem worse during any particular time of year?

Customer:

I have never had it before this fall

Dr. Rick :

Ok. Well, it could be a couple of things. I think, since it has been going on so long, the most likely is some sort of allergy. Another thought is eczema.

Customer:

I've never had any problem with that before

Dr. Rick :

One thing you could try, which would address both of these issues, would be to put some OTC 1% hydrocortazone cream on your lids 2 or 3x/day for a week or so and see if it helps. This is a very mild steroid prep and won't hurt your eyes at all.

Customer:

ok.

Dr. Rick :

Ya, but these things can just start to happen. Since I've entered my 50's all sort of things are starting to act up that worked just fine a few years ago :o)

Customer:

ok, anything else?

Dr. Rick :

If that doesn't help I'd suggest letting an ophthalmologist have a look at you. By the way, I don't think it is your makeup as this is tested for allergies and problems very well....

Customer:

alright.

Dr. Rick :

Nope. I'd try that and see how things go.

Dr. Rick :

My pleasure. I hope you feel better soon.

Dr. Rick :

And, now, the obligatory word from our sponsors: :o)
