Dr. Rick :

Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.

Dr. Rick :

It is hard to tell why you got a black eye while you slept. It is possible that you may have bumped or rubbed your eye in your sleep. As long as there is no pain and your vision is unaffected this should not be anything to be concerned about.

Dr. Rick :

Like a bruise elsewhere on your body there is no treatment necessary. It will slowly go away.

Dr. Rick :

If, however, you have difficulty closing your eyelids, notice any change in your vision or have any pain etc I would suggest you see your ophthalmologist.

Dr. Rick :

Does this make sense to you?

Dr. Rick :

And, now, the obligatory word from our sponsors: :o)

It is black and blue under my eye and seems to itch and hurt in one spot. Could a bug bite do that . What else would cause this type of black eye? Can it being in one being indicative of another problem?
Expert:  Dr. Rick replied 5 years ago.
Yes, a bug bite could have done this, especially a spider. If the skin shows any changes have a regular doctor look at it.

I do not think this is a sign of any serious underlying illness....these things happen :)
