I had an eye exam two weeks ago and everything was OK.

Resolved Question:

I had an eye exam two weeks ago and everything was OK. I'm 53 and can still read without glasses. Need glasses for distance. Today things seamed out of vocus a little. One eye has on orange circle a little right of center when I close the other eye. When I close both eyes the shadow is dark in the center and a little lighter on the outside, like an eclipse. Is this a retina problem that needs to be looked at NOW or can I wait to see a doctor in a few days. Thank You

Dr. PG :

hi

Dr. PG :

welcome to just answer

Dr. PG :

the symptoms that you are describing do indicate a retinal problem

Dr. PG :

the fact that you are using glasses for far vision with no reading glasses for near indicate that you have high myopia or a high minus power of glasses

Dr. PG :

in such cases, there are chances of a retinal detachment or retinal degeneration

Dr. PG :

so, you need to consult a retina specialist as soon as possible

Dr. PG :

if it is a retinal detachment, then you might need surgery as soon as possible

Dr. PG :

the other possibility is a vitreous hemorrhage (bleedig in front of retina)

Dr. PG :

this can again happen if a retinal blood vessel is is damaged while vitreous is getting detached from the retina.

Dr. PG :

In both the cases you need a retinal evaluation
