Resolved Question:

One month ago I had clody vision with black spots in my left eye. The cloudiness went away after approximately two weeks. THree days ago I started to notice the cloudiness again & more spots. This morning I woke up with inferior visual field defect to the left eye. I have no pain, no redness. I have hypo-thyroid disease, I am not diabetic or hypertensive. Vision to the right eye is normal.Do i need to go to the emergency room

Dr. James :

Hello.

Dr. James :

Do you still have those visual field defects?

Customer:

yes

Dr. James :

Do you have any headache?
Any jaw pain after chewing a few bites?

Customer:

no

Dr. James :

The visual field defect may be related to a problem with your optic nerve.

Dr. James :

A condition called anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

Dr. James :

Where the optic nerve temporarily loses blood supply.

Dr. James :

You should be examined by an ophthalmologist next week for confirmation.

Customer:

Should i continue the opth. drops. Does this usually improve

Dr. James :

You can continue to artificial tears.

Dr. James :

It may improve some over a period of months, but by much.
