My grandson had his eyes checked in December and needed a new prescription. He was having problems lately. Disturbed sleep and stomach aches. He got an MRI and other tests to see what his problem was. Everything seemed fine. He went to an eye doctor and needed a new prescription for his glasses. What could be wrong that he needed a new RX in this short time.

Dr. Rick :

Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.

Dr. Rick :

How old is your grandson? Was he seen by and optometrist or an ophthalmologist?

Customer:

He is 7. I feel that he went to an optometrist.

Dr. Rick :

Well, first of all he should be evaluated by a pediatric ophthalmologist.

Dr. Rick :

Just for your information, an Optometrist is to an Ophthalmologist as an Eagle Scout is to a Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps. They both are experts in their area however one of them has a lot more training, ability and experience. Which one would you choose to save your vision…… or your family?

Customer:

Does this sound like an eye problem or another kind of health problem?

Dr. Rick :

That being said, however, it is not unusual for kids to go through a few glasses Rx in a year. A significant change in 3 months? If he sees well out of the new glasses there may have been an error in the Rx of the old pair.

Dr. Rick :

I think this issue can be fully explained by a problem limited to the eyes.
