Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hi. I can help you today.
Are you available to chat?
I've read what you have written. First of all I do not believe your eye finding are related to the paint mist that may have got in your eyes.
Have you continued to take the azithromycin PO? Have you had allergies to any of the tetracycline based antibiotics in the past?
I did not take today's tablet. I have always responded very well to all kinds of antibiotics in the past.
OK. So. How are the eyes now? Better? Worse? the same?
I'd say the same.
That's good. I agree with you (does this mean we split the fee :o) ). The most likely cause of your eye discharge is an allergic reaction. This can occur in the eyes even without systemic symptoms. The other thing I would list in my differential diagnosis would be a bacterial infection, which would be made worse by your use of steroids and the history of shingles.
I put the bacterial infection lower on my list because it has not gotten worse and it would be very rare for it to show up in both eyes at the same time and to the same extent. I would also expect significant pain/discomfort with an infection.
The continued use of your predisone will help with the possible allergic rxn. I suggest you call your prescribing MD for another antibiotic prescription using a different class of drugs.
Yes--I am here.
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions?
That sounds good, but why would i suddenly have an allergic reaction after never having had one to antibiotics?
Oops...my computer just blinked....but I'm back
I will contact the prescribing doctor but if you have any insights into the allergic reaction, please let me know. Otherwise, thank you very much.
That is a very good question. It is very common for things to be going along just fine and then, for no reason that anyone can figure out, you become sensitive to a medicine. This occurs with antibiotics and can even occur with a medicine you take every day for years. Don't know why it happens, but it does.
