When did the double vision begin? When you cover your left eye, do you still have double vision?
The double vision began two days ago. When I cover my left eye I do not have double vision in my right eye, however, my right eye is somewhat blurry.
When you cover your right eye, do you have double vision?
When I look with both eyes open, the image out of my right eye appears to be one to two inches higher than the image out of my left eye. If I cover my right eye, I do not see double vision, only when both eyes are open.
Do you have any eye pain now?
Nothing excrutiating, but there is mild discomfort. When I drove home, I had to close my right eye and use my left eye to see with.
It appears your double vision is due to misalignment of your eyes, likely due to a muscle weakness or nerve weakness related to shingles. I recommend you call your ophthalmologist and leave a message with him so that he can fit you in on Monday. It does not appear to be an emergency, but your doctor would appreciate it if he knew.
If the double vision gets worse, you develop eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, tingling in your extremities, or slurred speech, then this could be signs of a stroke and you should be evaluated by a doctor immediately.
If I try to focus really hard, I can almost get back to single vision, however, cannot hold the single vision and after three seconds it goes back to double vision. So you think I can wait til monday, but just call the eye doctor?
I feel fine, no other symptoms and do not feel sick. I do feel like my right eye or eye muscles are "lazy." What would the eye doctor do to treat this?
With eye misalignment, you can work extra hard to get them realigned, but the muscles tire out.
That sounds exactly what my issue is, "eye misaligment" then. I can almost focus back to single good vision, but cannot hold it.
The importance of a a re-examination is to make sure nothing else serious is happening. For these types of double vision, the treatment is first observation to see if it improves.
If not, then prisms in glasses or eye muscle surgery.
Just let your ophthalmologist know about the change is all.
Okay, I am going to call my eye doctor and advised them what is happening and make appointment for Monday
