Hello and welcome. I am working on your answer and will be right back!

I am very sorry for your loss. You want to ask the executor of his estate to see the will. Often the will would provide for the inheritance to pass to the beneficiary's heirs, and if so, then you can. If instead it provides for it to pass to someone else, you cannot, so the key is what the will or trust provides.
