Thefts can be reported to the authorities for investigation and prosecution, at which time the thief can be ordered to return any items stolen. In civil court, on the other hand, once a succession or probate proceeding is initiated, the estate administrator can assume the responsibility of collecting any estate property. If a party holding such property refuses to return it, then a petition can be filed in that proceeding and the court can issue an order demanding that the property be returned and that the person holding the property explain themselves.
