My daughter passed away in Maine. If her estate is less than $20,000 are her heirs responsible for any of her debt? Phone, medical etc? Is there a document I could copy that states the law? I live in Mass.

No heir has personal liability for the debts of a decedent unless they they signed something agreeing to guaranty or otherwise be responsible for such debt.

The creditors only remedy is to file a claim for payment from estate assets through the probate court. If the assets are not sufficient then the creditors are just out of luck.
