IS IT UNCOMMON FOR SS NOT TO REQUEST A DEATH CERT. I DIDNT WANT TO GET IN TROUBLE THE TIMES ON MY PARENTS DEATH BEFORE THEY HAD ME SEND ONE BUT ITS BEEN YEARS SINCEI HAVE DONE THIS AGAIN HAS IT CHANGED

No, social security may not necessarily request a death certificate since the notification of death can be by telephone. The bank where the funds were being deposited would require a death certificate to close the account.
