Data Storage Problem Essay. (Half way written already)

Resolved Question:

I need this by 12 Aug at 3pm EST...

You should select a data storage problem of your interest and identify the various pieces of data that should be stored in a database. The Proposal for the Term Project, MS Word doc - 500 words minimum, should include:

1) Name and main idea of the project

2) Purpose and goal of the project

3) Possible users and administrators

4) How is this work being done now, without the database and how will the database specifically improve the process

5) Data elements to be involved: entities, attributes

6) Platform to be used: what type of database. (i.e. Short term will use MS Access, for ease of use and prototyping but long term will switch to a more robust platform like MS SQL, or Oracle, or remain in MS Access)

7) Other interesting related points

This is what I have, but it just needs to be changed a little and more detail:

The main idea of the project is managing data growth for companies using databases. Managing data growth while improving administrative efficiency requires a lot of work and a lot of updates to the database. The possible users would be the employees of the business and the business would have a database manager who manages the entire database. The database manager would receive feedback from the employees on issues with the database as well ideas that would make the database run quicker and more efficiently. The database would ultimately improve the process by speeding up query times when the employee needs to retrieve information for a customer or for statistical data. One of the main data elements that would be used would be entities. Entities are used to identify and describe all pieces of information used by the company applications. It is important because it can be re-used with different transactions like an address. When using an entity with a transaction, it can create shipping and billing addresses from the address entity. The platform that would be used first would be Microsoft Access because the company would be small and Microsoft Access is fairly easy to use with new employees. Once the company started growing, the database would be transferred over to MS SQL, and then onto Oracle if needed.

Almost every company that exist can benefit from some sort of automation by utilizing databases to store information. A database provides a business with the ability to more effectively manage the information about their business. As databases have advanced so too has the ease of implementing such databases even in very small businesses. A database can be utilized to remove much of the manual paperwork that is required in the form of administrative work that would normally be handled by people. In that regard a database can actually save the company money as there is a reduced need for employees to manage the data and instead the database is used for this.
The purpose of this project is to allow the company to move from paper records to a database system to track their customers as well as their work orders and billing information. Since it is a small company the goal will be to start small and then grow from there as the business grows. In addition, the database should help the company become more efficient at their business allowing them to make more money in the long term.
Users and administrators of the system would include the owner of the company or a designated IT person. Users of the system would be everyone else in the company that would interact or work with customers that would allow them to save the information they would need on a quick basis. Having this information at their fingertips would allow them to provide service to more customers in a more efficient manner and would remove the need to rely on paperwork and instead would be able to instantly retrieve this information from the database itself. The work is now being done manually and an automated replacement is needed.
In creating this database there will be a number of entities and attributes used. The entities will consist of those actual things that the database will be used to model. This would include such information as customers and orders. Attributes would be described as the components of the system that make up those entities. Attributes would include things like name, address, city, state, zip for the Customer entity and things such as order number, invoice number, product, price etc for the Orders entity. Other attributes would be added as needed.
Based on the size of the company the best possible option for this company would be to utilize Microsoft Access for its ease of implementation as well as the price of the database. This database would provide the company the jumpstart they need to have a database that would create value for the company. As the company grew there would be the opportunity to upgrade to a more robust database platform such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. Both of these databases would provide the company with additional capabilities to support a larger customer base as well as additional functionality that would be needed to support a larger database. Even though the company is small they need the ability to manage their business more efficiently and utilize the database to actually grow the company.

Positive feedback is appreciated based on your satisfaction. Let me know if I can help in the future.
Thanks!

I need this by 26 Aug at 3pm EST.

Expert:  Alex replied 10 months ago.

Ok, looking at 1000 words including designing the tables will take some considerable time. Let me know if there is a bonus being offered as I won't be able to complete this at the current commission amount.

Thanks
Alex

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Yes there will b a bonus involved. :)

Expert:  Alex replied 10 months ago.

Hi, the minimum bonus would be $42.50 to cover the hours. If that's acceptable let me know and I'll get started on it tomorrow.

Thanks
Alex

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

That is acceptable. Thanks!

Expert:  Alex replied 10 months ago.

Hi, I went ahead and completed it for you tonight. I reused much of the intro as it was part of the overall paper. I also added some additional details to that section in addition to going through the entire normalization process for the tables. The entire project ended up at just over 1200+ words and almost 6 pages.
