Dear XXXXX,There has been a little change in our vacation plans. We have deferred Aspen for winters and are now planning to go to San Francisco and cover lake tahoe and yosemite form there end of May.I need to know what are and how far are the most popular points of lake tahoe from sanfransico. Also if we rent a car how is the drive is it a hilly or a normal drive? Thanks in advance Raymond
Hi,Wow, that is a change, but makes sense since you really wanted to see the snow.Just give me a bit, and I will get that information ready.Veronica
Do you know if you plan to visit North or South Lake Tahoe ?North Lake Tahoe is slightly closer to San Francisco while South Lake Tahoe is closer to Nevada ( which also means....... closer to legal Casinos' !!!!! ) From what I have read, the drive is easy and very scenic. It was in fact used by horses puling wagons in the old days, so I cannot imagine it being a treacherous route. If you are interested in visiting Wineries along the way let me know, as there are many options. Generally, The Wineries are about an hour off the highway. Here are directions for both North and South:San Francisco to North Lake Tahoe ( Approx 3 Hours )From San Francisco/Bay Area Take Interstate 80-East to Truckee, California (about 200 miles from San Francisco). At Truckee, take the State Route 89-South exit, drive 5 miles. You will pass Olympic Village Turn-off for Squaw Valley and then head toward Tahoe City. From San Francisco to South Lake Tahoe (Approx 3.5-4 hours )Follow Interstate 80 East to Sacramento. Continue on I-80 until the junction of U.S. Highway 50 East. Follow U.S. Highway 50 East to the junction of Highway 50 and U.S. Highway 89 N. Continue on Highway 50 making a right hand turn, following the bend in the road. California access is at the gondola in Heavenly Village on Highway 50 and also via Ski Run Blvd. to the California Base LodgeLet me know if you plan on visiting North or South so I can get the ball rolling. Thanks,V
Thanks a ton Veronica,I need to know which is the better part of lake tahoe and what are the main attractions?I believe south tahoe is more popular with tourists? How far would that be from Sanfrancisco.
South Lake Tahoe is a bit more popular with tourists because they have larger Casinos. It is about 3.5-4 hours trip. While I am working on providing you with the main attractions in South Lake Tahoe, please review the attached directions: From San Francisco to South Lake Tahoe (Approx 3.5-4 hours )Follow Interstate 80 East to Sacramento. Continue on I-80 until the junction of U.S. Highway 50 East. Follow U.S. Highway 50 East to the junction of Highway 50 and U.S. Highway 89 N. Also how far is yosemite from sanfrancisco and South lake tahoe form yosemite.Maybe we can do Sanfrancisco-yosemite-south lake tahoe
No problem, I will have information re: Yosemite directions shortly.First, I am going to send you points of interest in South Lake Tahoe.I have A LOT of options for you, so you may receive more then one email thread on this subject. Then we will get to the above question. Here we go !!!
thanks
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE INSIDE TIPS1- You can take Route 50 from California instead of I-80. Although there are two lanes instead of the four on I-80, Route 50 will take you through the mountains, there is less traffic and overall a more scenic trip. There are many unique shops and restaurants along the way. You will be greeted by the lake when you arrive.2- In case you have sensitive eyes/skin, bring eye drops and extra moisturizer as the air is extremely dry.3- The high altitude speeds up the burning affect of the sun so make sure you are properly prepared.4- There is a $3.00 all day trolley service within the town.5- My personal favorite and a DO NOT miss is The Swiss Chalet restaurant.http://www.baumannswisschalet.com

Thanks this should help
further to my last question Also do let me know what are the transportation options besides driving and if you could send me a link to their schedules?
Yes, the directions I gave you including the scenic route were from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe.Driving and alternative transportation methods for traveling between all three destinations are forthcoming.
I need some clarification please. I believe you have a week, is that correct ?Are you booked at a hotel in San Francisco the entire week and would that be your home base ?ORAre you planning to start in SF, travel to Yosemite, end in Lake Tahoe and return home ?There are many ways to do this trip both by car and bus. From my research, it indicates that hotels are hard to book in June at Yosemite. Should I include that in my search or are you staying in a private residence ?V
Yes I would book a hotel in Sanfrancisco and then travel to Lake tahoe and back.We can leave yosemite out for the time being.I am willing to consider staying in lake tahoe for 2-3 days and return home directly if there is a direct flight to LA from Lake Tahoe, where I live.In any case say staying 3-4 days in SFO and 2-3 days in Lake tahoe should be ideal..
Car, Plane, Bus/Train Travel Okay. I am repasting the directions from SF to Lake Tahoe so there isn't any confusion. You will be greeted by the lake when you arrive.Air Travel If you want to fly from South Lake Tahoe back to LA, there are plenty of reasonable non-stop flight for Friday June 8th.There are only two non-stop flights that Saturday or Sunday and there are not many tickets left.BY TRAINI know you said to skip Yosemite, but I wanted you to see a train tour option that looks amazing. Approx $ 160.00 p/psanfranshuttletours.comBY BUS/TRAINAmtrak has a bus/train combination that is about a 2.5 hour ride and approx $ 100.00. (You will need to make transfers )Also, begin making arrangements soon as I see a lot of travel options booking at a fast rate.Let me know if I have missed anything.VAsk Veronica41034.0498700231
All seems fine.Is there just a bus tour from san francisco to lake tahoe or vice versa. If so can you send me the link?
No. All the bus tours take place in the winter months because of all the skiing.I myself was surprised not to find a bus tour to Lake Tahoe in the summer. The only type of bus tour is a private shuttle bus. I will run another check, but I am fairly certain that would be your only option.
Thanks,do let me know if there is something.
Absolutely ! I want to be as thorough as possible so if you do not hear back from in the next few hours, you will surely hear from me tomorrow either way.Thank you again for your generosity and for trusting me with your vacation !
Like I thought, the only ground transportation to Lake Tahoe is Amtrak. And I do have a second party confirmation. However, if you like to golf, there is a private bus package to SLT.http://www.visitrenotahoe.comIf a bus is a must, would you like me to look up a different area ?I did find several great bus tours around San Francisco,Maybe I should open a summer time private bus company from San Fran to Lake Tahoe !I could make millions .......Ask Veronica41034.1424329861
Yeah sure you would! No thanks but I am looking at lake tahoe only .One last thing, could you let me have the link to find the amtrack bus/train schedule to lake tahoe from San Francisco.
