Is it poor etiquette to take what you have brought to a party (that is unfinished....say a crab dip or tapenade and already back in the host''s fridge before you leave) out of the fridge and take it home?

The proper etiquette is for the hostess to hand back the dish with leftovers to the guest. The guest may ask the hostess if she would like to keep any leftovers, but is not obligated to. If a dish gets left behind, the guest- not the hostess- is the person under obligation to make sure they get their dish back.
