what can i add to my meringue mixture to stiffen it

the meringue i made will not come to stiff peaks. what can i add to it to make it work.

My wife informs me, confidently, that you can use this starch based product, called 'Meringue Powder', available here: http://www.wilton.com/yearbook/productinfo/meringue.cfm


She also advises mixing the sugar in more slowly, adding tiny amounts of salt and lemon juice at the same time.

Reply to fredfredfred's Post: the predicament i was in required an immediate answer not a trip to the store. there is something you can add to the egg whites to make them stiff ie flour? corn starch? something you keep handy in the kitchen.
