Customer Question

I have a window replacement company in south florida. I have to meet certain codes of which i understand all but 1 in full. What would be the minimum DP rating that my window will have to have in each homes location? There is a wind velocity map that tells you what the wind velocities are in any location. Can you use that information to find what DP rating my window needs to be? I have several product lines but the one i am attempting to use is DP50 and all cities i work within are single family homes between 140-150 mph wind zones.

Hello, those windows in the 140 to 150 mph wind zones will have to be custom made tempered 1/4" plate glass.. no standard window with a DP rating for 5O mph will withstand such force.... additionally the entire home will have to build to withstand such forces.

Here is one of several sources

Let me know what you think, am I on the right track for you? We can discuss this without a time limit,

When you have what you need, please locate the 'Finish and rate' link and click on it, that is the only way the company pays me for my time and expenses. Thanks!

dp 50 doesn't mean its rated for 50 mph. It is in different units, its a standard way of rating windows. Design Pressure 50. This is for replacement windows. The glass doesn't have to be 1/4 plate glass it has to be impact rated laminated glass. That doesn't answer my question at all. I think you misinterpreted my question.

what question was what is the minimum dp rating required for a wind zone of 140-150. I don't think you even know what dp rating is. A link to a window manufacturer does me no good. I want a refund.

You will be better off if I opt out and one of our architects picks up your question hopefully.

Meantime here is chart on the DP ratings vs wind velocity and how DP varies with the window area in square feet,
