I've been treated 10 years now. I get blood tests every six

Customer Question

I've been treated for hypothyroidism for around 10 years now. I get blood tests every six months and it is well controlled. About a month ago I found a small, pea size lump on the middle right side of my neck. It has shrunk a little but still can be felt very easily. I called my doctor, but be is not concerned because of the small size. Should I get a second opinion? Could this be a thyroid nodule? Thanks for the help.

Hi and thanks for query.

Yes you must get a second opinion. Any lump in the thyroid is to be evaluated. You should get a thorough examination, ultrasound and fine needle aspiration of the lump so that diagnosis can be made and treatment offered accordingly and timely.

How can you tell a thyroid nodule from just a normal pea sized lymph node?
Expert:  Dr Uzair replied 1 year ago.

Lymph nodes do not appear on thyroid they are located back in neck and even if it is lymph node it must be evaluated.
