Its very hard to fin a endo who will take our insurance. I can take my husband to one 2 hrs plus away or can our primary, a nurse practioner , take care of his diabetes ?

Thank you for your question, It depends how high his blood glucose is, it is best and cheap option to keep a glucometer at home and check the glucose levels, If these are less than 280-300mg/dl random then these can be controlled with high dose of oral medicine, anything above this will need insulin. Best option is to get him checked to your primary care doctor first, get hi blood glucose readings twice daily before meals for 2-3 days and write them in a paper and take this record to your doctor, this will help him put accurate medicine.
