Customer Question

I am having so many odd symptoms these days. I'm presently on a two week heart monitor to see if something is up with my heart. In the meantime most of my symptoms cluster around my cycle. I typically get symptoms at 8 days, 14 days and on either side of 28 days. My symptoms range from odd heart arrhythmia's to numb hands at night to rush of adrenaline like sensations in my body at odd times, fever (a few days before my period), migraine symptoms, speech issues and others. I'm going to various doctors to try and figure out what's going on but I'm wondering if there's a chance I could have some significant hormonal imbalances causing some of these. I am 46 years of age. My cycles are typically at 28 days and are short 4 or 5 days max with really on 2 significant bleeding days. Every other month or so I do a short month usually around 25 days last month however was 21 days. What would your recommendation be?

Dr Eisenbud : A few hormonal things come to mind: are you perimenopausal? Check LH/FSH, if high sometimes low dose BCPs can help. Has your thyroid been checked?(TSH). There is a rare adrenal tumor called a pheochromocytoma that can produce these symptoms. Your doc can check this for you.
Customer :

I don't have high blood pressure so is it less likely I'd have that rare tumor without the high blood pressure?

Customer :

I'm pretty sure my thyroid has been checked and is fine. What does that rule out?

Dr Eisenbud :

There are rare cases of pheochromocytoma with normal BP. If nothing comes of the telemetry maybe think about the pheo but check out my pther suggestions first. Sorry i can't thing of any other endocrine problems that would cause your symptoms.
