I received and signed an offer letter that included $15,000

Customer Question

I received and signed an offer letter for employment that included $15,000 sign on bonus. I choose to receive it in 4 installments. I worked for the company 16 months and received half but were owed 2 more installments. I did not sign any document detailing that I would forfeit if I terminated employment with the company. The employer is refusing to pay the due installments. Can they do that?

Why does the ex employer claim they have the right to withhold the remainder of your bonus if there is no contractual right to do so?
