Customer Question

I work in retail. My boss had asked me to do a task which I did. but according to him, I misunderstood. He had told me to put the rack of clothes to the back. I heard to the back. Then later after I clocked out, I told him I put it in the back. He then said I didn't do my job and wasn't going to allow me to leave until I finished the task. But I had already clocked out and I was nearly late to my next shift somewhere else. Who is right in this situation. Did I have the right to say no?
