The House of Representatives average working about 140 days per year and generally when in session 12-16 hour days. The Senate has about 100 voting days a year and works the same number of hours. However, just because they are not in actual session does not mean they are not working in their offices dealing with voters or drafting bills or meeting on various issues. That total brings them up to about 200 days a year and even more during an election year.
