Can my employer reduce my salary after a demotion

Resolved Question:

My company downsized and as a result I was demoted from manager to non-manager. They are reducing my salary from $60k to $50k. I live in NYC. Is this legal?

Unless you have an employment contract which says otherwise, employers may reduce your salary.
