Windows Live (MSN) did have an outage error but it looks like it is cleared up so that shouldn't be causing the issue.
Go into Settings (swipe down from the top of the screen)* More > Applications > Installed Applications* Swipe down to the Email App* "Clear Data"
Try opening email now

It looks like users are still experiencing issues with Windows Live/Outlook/MSN right now on mobile devices. You should be able to view your email on your Kindle by opening a browser and going to m.hotmail.com then signing into your account until the issue is fixed.
