I can email myself (from my aol address to my aol address)

Customer Question

I can email myself (from my aol address to my aol address) via Outlook, but emails to other addresses (including to my gmail address) get stuck in the outbox with an error: "The server responded: 521 5.2.1 : Service Temporarily Unavailable". I am able to email from aol webmail to my gmail account, so the problem is on the Outlook side, rather than the AOL side, it seems.
JA: How long has this been an issue?
Customer: about an hour
JA: How do you access your email most often? On a phone or tablet, or through a web browser?
Customer: most often through Outlook 2007
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: ScanPST (no change) MFCMAPI to see if there are phantom emails getting stuck in the outbox (there aren't any that I could find) restarted outlook, restarted computer, of course...
JA: Anything else you want the email expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I don't want to start a new PST from scratch. Too much of a pain! Need to find a fix, rather than an overhaul.

I can send and receive gmail through Outlook, and can receive aol email through outlook, but can not send aol email (but, oddly, I can send an aol email to myself, and it goes through)

Over $40 for tech support is a lot (but still seems fair). over $80 for tech support is much more than I want to spend right now. It says "Outlook", which is where my AOL account is set up. (when I double-click "outlook" then "email accounts", my aol email account is listed, as is my gmail account.
