I'm sorry about the issue, whan did this start and what is your operating system please (windows or mac) ?

First let's backup your music and podcasts,please follow the steps below :

1. Connect the ipod to mac using the USB cable.
2. Now go to the iTunes and in iTunes select the devices. if you don't have itunes please download from here
3. In devices select and tap the ipod.
4. Now go to the place where songs are stored in ipod.
5. Now select the songs which you want to transfer.
6. After selecting press the transfer button.
Wait until the songs transfer.After transfering disconnect the ipod from pc.

If you have iCloud then Tap Settings, then scroll down and tap iCloud.

Scroll down, tap Backup, and make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on.

Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process completes.

Make sure that the backup finished: Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, then select your device. The backup should appear in the details with the time and backup size.

Once you have backup all your data (music and podcast) please follow the steps below to restore your Nano device:

  1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
  2. Connect your iPod to your computer with the cable that came with your device.
  3. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps. If you forgot your passcode, get help.
  4. select your nano device when it appears in iTunes
  5. In the Summary panel, click Restore [device].
  6. After your device restores to factory settings, it restarts. Now you can set it up as new.
