I am having problems receiving my emails via the Microsoft

I am having problems receiving my emails via the Microsoft Live Mail Program. When I access my email I receive a text box from the server: imap.gmail.com asking for my user name and password. I enter the data and receive a message stating the server has rejected your login. If I go to mail.google.com enter the exact same user name and password, my emails are accessible. I am very frustrated with the google mail program. This problem just started four days ago. I gone to the google website and secured all my devices as requested. The problem occurs on my main desktop computer. Please advise me as to how I can solve this problem. I have been unable to obtain a response from Google.
