Yahoo and gmail email accounts stopped updating on iphone SE. Mail still working properly on my computer.
Tried deleting accounting and relaoding- did not work. Now all mail boxes empty

Hi my name is ***** ***** I may be able to assist. There is a setting the Yahoo and GMail placed on their servers that started blocking POP and IMAP clients that they deem unsecure. You might want to check this setting to Allow less-secure apps. Give me a sec and I'll post the process for both.

For Yahoo, logon to your webmail and then click on this link:

https://login.yahoo.com/account/security#less-secure-apps

Select Allow apps that use less secure sign in.

- To turn off, you can simply deselect.

For GMail, logon to GMail then click this link below:

http://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps

Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on.

i am only having a problem on the phone. Not on the computer. I do not want to change settings on the computer

It's possible that the computer will stop functioning in the near future with this setting turned on. The setting is for all devices that use POP or IMAP to connect to the service. I've had to do this with several people so far. The computer client most likely still has a valid connection to the service that has not expired yet.

I went to the yahoo settings. I already had the one you recommended for less secure apps turned on.

When you set them both back up again, did they "Verify" and then just not pull everything in?

I think it did verify, but I am not sure. Currently, no mail is in any mailbox.

Have you rebooted the phone yet? I did not see if that was done in the troubleshooting info on your question.

I did shut it off and turn back on, but not reset.

I wouldn't do a factory reset. Just try the power down reset. Hold down the power button till the "Slide to Power Off" slider comes up and then slide to power down. Wait a few secs. and then hold do the power button to turn it on.

It did not change. It is interesting- the one email that did come through the phone is one from Yahoo telling me that I changed my security setting. That is after I turned off then back on the "allow less secure.."

In the meantime, I have downloaded the yahoo mail app to retrieve my mail.
that works- but not the way I'd like to access my mail

The Yahoo app is the preferred method but I don't like it either. Yahoo will notify you for any changes done.

Is 2-step authentication turned on for both Yahoo and GMail?

If you go into the settings under Mail, Contacts and Calendars, tap each service and it should say on the Incoming settings.

Outgoing will always be SMTP. What does the server name setting say? That might give you an indication.

Does your Yahoo say Yahoo Mail Account?

then could change the port to 993
still does work.

When creating a new email account choose yahoo and it will populate all the settings for you.
