Hi my name is ***** ***** I may be able to assist. There is a setting the Yahoo and GMail placed on their servers that started blocking POP and IMAP clients that they deem unsecure. You might want to check this setting to Allow less-secure apps. Give me a sec and I'll post the process for both.

Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

For Yahoo, logon to your webmail and then click on this link:

https://login.yahoo.com/account/security#less-secure-apps

Select Allow apps that use less secure sign in.

- To turn off, you can simply deselect.

For GMail, logon to GMail then click this link below:

http://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps

Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on.

i am only having a problem on the phone. Not on the computer. I do not want to change settings on the computer
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

It's possible that the computer will stop functioning in the near future with this setting turned on. The setting is for all devices that use POP or IMAP to connect to the service. I've had to do this with several people so far. The computer client most likely still has a valid connection to the service that has not expired yet.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I went to the yahoo settings. I already had the one you recommended for less secure apps turned on.
that was not the problem.
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
still not working
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

When you set them both back up again, did they "Verify" and then just not pull everything in?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I think it did verify, but I am not sure. Currently, no mail is in any mailbox.
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Have you rebooted the phone yet? I did not see if that was done in the troubleshooting info on your question.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I did shut it off and turn back on, but not reset.
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

I wouldn't do a factory reset. Just try the power down reset. Hold down the power button till the "Slide to Power Off" slider comes up and then slide to power down. Wait a few secs. and then hold do the power button to turn it on.

Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Unless that is what you already did. I just want to make sure.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
ok. doing that
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
i did that before, but i am doing it again
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
It did not change. It is interesting- the one email that did come through the phone is one from Yahoo telling me that I changed my security setting. That is after I turned off then back on the "allow less secure.."
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
In the meantime, I have downloaded the yahoo mail app to retrieve my mail.
that works- but not the way I'd like to access my mail
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

The Yahoo app is the preferred method but I don't like it either. Yahoo will notify you for any changes done.

Is 2-step authentication turned on for both Yahoo and GMail?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
No, it is not turned on
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I am really just about out of time and do not have this figured out yet-
not sure what options are
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Which e-mail protocol are you using, POP or IMAP?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
how can I tell? I am not sure
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

If you go into the settings under Mail, Contacts and Calendars, tap each service and it should say on the Incoming settings.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I do not see incoming settings-
outgoing SMTP
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Outgoing will always be SMTP. What does the server name setting say? That might give you an indication.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I am looking on the phone in settings. There is not a server name that i see
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Does your Yahoo say Yahoo Mail Account?

Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

If so, we can try a manual setup to connect to Yahoo.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
ok. i have only 5 minutes before i must go
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Ok. Let's remove the Yahoo account. Then Add Account and choose Other.

Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Enter your name, email address, password, and a description for your account.

Choose IMAP.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.

Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Host name will be imap.mail.yahoo.com

User Name is ***** ***** address

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
there is nowhere to enter those port numbers or SSL
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

Hmm... The option might be available afterward. Go ahead and tap Next or Done.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
i already did that. It just said verifying.
Then it finished
Still no mail
Expert:  Jason Fenoglio replied 8 months ago.

That's bizzare. I'm not sure what else to do. I can put your question back out into the queue and see if there is another expert that might have an idea if that works for you. Sorry that I was not able to get you back up and running.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I went into Advanced
then could change the port to 993
still does work.
I must leave now.
My problem is not resolved. Thanks for trying
Expert:  Kevin T replied 8 months ago.

Hi,

When creating a new email account choose yahoo and it will populate all the settings for you.
