Just started getting an error message.

Just started getting an error message. I can receive emails but not send. Error message reads: Server not responding 706; Lost connection to the server {34:418} Extra: I don't do cloud mail. All email comes to me on my 2009 Apple MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.
