The answer to the problem you are facing with lost contacts for that you have to call the number i gave as the problem can only be fixed from the AOL server end.
Are you using AOl 9.0 software or using AOL webmail
so in your webmail, there are 2 problems
1. your contacts are not there
2. you are getting emails only in junk/spam..no emails in inbox
please confirm if the above is correct
try the below
once done reopen your webmail and check if your contacts are back or not
did you sign in to aol and then tried the steps or without signing in

ok no problems...which browser are you using chrome, firefox, \ie, safari etc
you can contact aol at 1-***-***-**** (Mon-Fri: 8am-12am ET; Sat: 8am-10pm ET) as lost contacts is a aol server issue and we can only test the mail settings and browser settings
well see if an account has been hacked we cannot recover if anything has been permanently deleted
the only possibility is to try recovering from aol servers if they keep a copy of users data with them
the steps i gave was to recover it, but since the options seem not be listed on your aol webmail the same way as i told, it would be best to give aol a call and check if they actually keep a copy of data or not. if not then unfortunately for something that is permanently deleted there is no way to recover it
