I'm having trouble connecting my google business mail to my

Customer Question

I'm having trouble connecting my google business mail to my personal mail account. I like to be able to send from one mail account and use as an alias. The google business email account is hosted by namecheap. When I attempt to connect as an alias on my personal gmail account, I get this error message:
Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
[Server response: DNS Error: Address resolution of smtp.denimcoffeecompany.com. failed: Domain name not found code(0)

Hello, I'm Tim and will do my best to assist you, Can you tell me when this started happening?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I created the domain on namecheap about 6 months ago.
I created the business email account with google about 2 months ago.
I have not been able to link the alias to my personal account ever.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

aw, ok. Can you bare with me? I'm trying to help another customer, but will be back to you as soon as i can, is that ok?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Sure thing

Standard smtp port 25?

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

C:\Users\Tim>telnet denimcoffeecompany.com 25
Connecting To denimcoffeecompany.com...Could not open connection to the host, on
port 25: Connect failed

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Assuming they are using the standard port everyone but gmail uses, that mail server is not set up.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I am able to get mail, so how could I get mail without the server running?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

You should be getting it, but not sending it.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

25 is just out bound.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Can you send mail? If so its using a diff port.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I can send as well, but only from the google mail account.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Using the gmail.com or using outlook with gmail set up on it?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I do not use outlook. If I sing in to***@******.*** on google, I can send.
But I want to link to that account and use as an alias using***@******.***
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I see, so you are just using the gmail web interface right?

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

sorry, i assumed you were using a mail client.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Yup, gmail only.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

ok, totally diff ball of wax then. Give me a momment pls.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Do you have a google apps account, its a paid service....that's what lets you make aliases etc.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
denimcoffeecompany.com is a paid account
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
is not, but I use other aliases on there just fine.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

interesting.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

And it throws that error about dns back - how does it present that to you?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
When I attempt to connect as an alias with login
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I go to my personal gmail, settings, accounts and import, send mail as, add another email address you own, fill in the info, then error
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

yeah, can you log into gmail so we can review the settings in there?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I'm in
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I ran into this article, it may be simular

For the heck of it, try one of these IPs where the smtp.gmail.com is set.

64.233.180.108
64.233.180.109

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Same error for both IPs
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

that doesn't make any sense, and thats from with in google....it's their own IPS. And the other accounts you have that do work, are set up exactly the same right?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
They are set up the same way, but they are hosted by namecheap itself, so the server is different.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
denimcoffee is hosted by namecheap, but the mailserver is on Google.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Ok, bare with me, i'm trying to consider all of the possible places it could get hung up

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok, attached are the MX records I added to namecheap in order to use Google to host mail:
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
what I'm entering to attempt to add the address:
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

looking.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

ok, i cant say anything about those mx record names -

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I'm pretty sure its on the hosting side still, let me see if 587 is open

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

hm, no dice on 587.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

C:\Users\Tim>telnet denimcoffeecompany.com 587
Connecting To denimcoffeecompany.com...Could not open connection to the host, on
port 587: Connect failed

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
is that a namecheap problem or gmail problem?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I'm sure there is a lot more to that hosting menu than what i see in the screen shot

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I never say anything 100%.....but like i started out on, no ports going into your domain are accepting connections

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

It's highly likely its on that end. I've never set up the googles accounts like you did, but im sure its straight forward and they looekd fine.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Not to mention, we should be able to telnet, that's the smoking gun man.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Hmmm, so in lay terms, something about Namecheap's dns is wrong? What should I try on Namecheap's side?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Not their DNS - But the mail ports they are using which should be 25 or 587 since you have ssl are not accepting connections

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Let me give you some console stuff to send them, ok?

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

You know what, it's no wounder the ports are not working, *** UnKnown can't find smtp.denimcoffeecompany.com: Non-existent domain

smtp.denimcoffeecompany.com is not in DNS

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

That's the problem, i'm not sure how i missed that. They only put in the domain denimcoffeecompany.com which is needed obviously

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Tell them to add smtp.denimcoffeecompany.com into their DNS.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Sorry about that - does that make sense?

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

This is all you should need to send them.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

That is for sure the problem, that one i can rubber stamp "100%"

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Make sense?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I'm trying to add it now
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Ok

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

any luck?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
namecheap's dragging their feet a bit, but they'll come around
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Ok. I'll be around, just contact back here if you need more help, ok?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Sure thing, thanks.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I'll check back in, and if you reply here i get buzzed. Please do take the time to rate me. sound fair?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Will do.
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Cool, and thanks.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
They would like the value and record type to add the dns record. Any idea?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

are you kidding? They are the hosting company. Hold on.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Yeah, I should switch to Godaddy, but I just hate their ads too much
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

haha, fair.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

MX record. Value of 15.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

That's the standard, some places do it a little differently, i can't believe they don't know. That's like asking someone from another state what your own zip code is.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Should it be specified for the mail subdomain or the domain name itself, please?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Man, I'm lost here, not really my language
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Sub domain.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Try it now?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

go for it, though with the responses they are giving you, i'm a bit worried.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Still getting the same errors
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Ask them what the Time to Live is on that DNS entry.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I'm sure it is not working right now, DNS takes time to popagate.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

who is this hosting company again?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
namecheap
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

they really didint put much thought into the name did they

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
well, the names are cheap...
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I have a bunch of sites on here working fine. Just having problems with email hosting
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
any recommendations for future hosting?
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Network solutions

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I know they are more. They are prob the Best. If you can stand godaddys ads, them they are OK.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
ok, they said 30 minutes on their end, but can take 2 hours on the mail server cache
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

Did they say what the TTL was?

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

yup, or longer.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

See what happens, Let me know if you need more help. Considering bailing, i'm not sure if they put that mx record in right...And there's not too much i can do about that one.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

I'll check back in later. Please do leave me a positive rating as I've been at it a while, and will continue to help even after.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
You got it
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Still on the struggle bus
Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

no good.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

give me a few min to look at that DNS, i have a few customers right now.

Expert:  Tim replied 11 months ago.

K, checking again.
