I suggest you to reset your browser, Safari once as given under:
Start the Safari browser.
On the Apple menu bar, click Safari and then do the following:
Select Preferences: On the Extensions tab, look for any suspicious plug-ins. If you find any suspicious extension in the list, click Uninstall to remove it.
Select Reset Safari: In the Reset Safari window, to restore the default settings of Safari, check all the boxes and then click Reset.
You can please reset Safari on iPad as given under:
On the iPad tap on Settings then Safari on the left pane.
You will see on the right side listed:
* Clear History
* Clear Cookies
* Clear Cache
Tap on each one to clear all of the store information and bring back to factory stored browser.

Emails are generally configured with IMAP or POP settings on the iPad device.
Could you please try to visit www.aol.com on any device like computer and then check then click Mail and try to login there.
Please let me know if you're able to login into your aol webmail account there or not.
If yes, please remove your AOL account from iPad and then re-add it again.
Turn off your computer.
Hold down ALT key and then start tapping F11(hitting UP and Down) while you restart your computer and follow on-screen instructions to restore it to factory settings.
